The worst thing about this album is that Snoop Dogg, known years ago as Snoop Doggy Dogg, changed his name to make it. This new change may be temporary, an alias to reflect his sudden switch from a “gangsta” rapper to a reggae singer, but it’s still silly and unnecessary. “Snoop Dogg” has a nice cool ring to it. “Snoop Lion”, which adds an awkward syllable and sounds like an ebonical way of accusing Snoop of “lying”, sounds comparatively stupid.
The songs are better. Not better than most of his Dogg songs; albums like The Blue Carpet Treatment and Doggystyle trump this one easily; but better than the name. Memorable vocal melodies are hard to find; the Fruit Juice and Smoke The Weed anthems are downright annoying; but the beats are convincingly groovy. Though Snoop often forgets to fake a Jamaican accent, this is, for what it’s worth, real reggae music. It’s just mediocre reggae music.

Yeah, i think you might be a little too caught up in the name change. But maybe this is a way of not misrepresnting the content of the album. A “reincarnation” – therefore a new name— Anyway, my copy is still in transit. When you discuss the music I can understand the idea that “this is reggae, but mediocre raggae” maybe so .. i look forward to the album, but I appreciate the honest review.
dude stop actting like snoop is snoop lion for good are you serious and do you realize that people tend to do new things and try new stuff into music for an while duhhhh and this album is great any ways
As he clearly stated – this new change may be a temporary one. Try to act like an adult if you are going to post reviews.
are you guys idiots? or are you children?have you seen his documentary? or did you miss that? Snoop has had enough of the life of violence and the things it got him in hisd personal life. True reggae is a new and is something new to him, but this is something personal and is on a good path for him. He is trying to find peace and make a change. Some of these songs are good but it takes time and practice. Plus he is only snoop lion when he does reggae, he is always snoop dogg as said in a coference….so do not hate, and enjoy in this fun and spiritual ride, if not then oh well. He is snoop, and will forever be known as that. Jah bless.
The name “Snoop Lion” was bestowed upon him by a Jamaican High Priest.
I especially love that part about the priest being “high”. 馃槈
