video review : American Sasquatch [ Man Myth Or Monster ]

I suspect the Sasquatch is a Myth. This documentary; the first from David Paulides not related to Missing 411; only reinforces my suspicion. Bigfoot as simply an undiscovered species of “flesh and blood ape” is intriguingly plausible. It’s the creature being given supernatural attributes, enabling it to literally disappear before you can get a good camera shot, that makes the eyes roll.

It’s a convenient excuse, in other words, for what is essentially a lack of evidence. People talk about their alleged encounters; one woman swears it stared into her bedroom window one night à la Peeping Tom; but the video/audio recordings are rather unconvincing. Sasquatches, even magical ones from “the spirit world”, might exist, but this doc, while interesting, fails to make the case.

video review : Weapons

video review : Weapons

The best thing about this story is the initial premise. A class of elementary school kids go missing after running away from home at “2:17 in the morning”. Once that mystery is solved and its supernatural origins are revealed, you’re left wishing you were watching something more serious than a horror flick with comedic undertones.

That’s not to say it isn’t interesting enough to keep watching, but some of it “doesn’t make any sense at all”. The plot; sliced into nonlinear chapters based on each main character; never really comes together in the end. The whole point of Gladys’ Weapons, in fact, let alone the significance of “2:17”, is basically left to your imagination.

audio review : Based On A True Story [ Season 1 ] ( album ) ... Will Smith

Will Smith had what one might call a squeaky-clean image for a long time. It wasn’t until the slap heard around the world that he became somewhat infamous. Instead of ignoring the scandal, he addresses it at the very start of this album; his first in twenty years; which is a bold move. That he handles it with comedy, in the style he became popular for in the first place, makes it a smart one.

He should’ve stuck with humor for the rest of the set. It’s his most admirable trait. When he’s just rapping or trying to be a positive role model; he actually takes on the role of a church Reverend here, oddly enough; things aren’t as interesting. He’s not “wack”; never was; but some of these songs come close. The best include Work Of Art with Jaden Smith and Tantrum with Joyner Lucas.
