This doesn’t begin like a Steven Spielberg flick; it starts with a wrestling match; but it ends like one. The last ten minutes, when the title concept finally comes into play, are engrossing. That’s also when, considering the recent real-life release of UFO files from the US government, it starts to seem authentic.

The preceding story is mostly hackneyed Hollywood movie fare. The bad guys; members of a secret agency known as Wardex; are dutifully inept. The protagonist; a Kansas City weatherwoman; is given psychic powers that allow her to escape danger, and even avoid a traffic ticket, when convenient.

video review : A Quiet Place

It’s hard not to make noise. That’s the problem for a family trying to survive in an apocalyptic world. Their Earth has been invaded by blind space aliens who hunt humans thru sound.

With that, it’s like a cross between Signs and Tremors as the family tip-toes around and communicates via sign language. If you so much as fart too loud, you’re dead. How’s that for tension?

A Quiet Place works as a nod to the silent film era of a century ago, but it’s ultimately just another average horror flick that doesn’t have a lot to offer beyond its gimmicky premise.
