video review : The Jacket
There’s a scene in this movie in which one character says to another, “You don’t understand”. That second character responds, “Try and help me understand.” “I don’t understand,” a third character says about ten minutes or fifteen years later. Yeah, it’s a confusing movie.
It’s about a former US soldier stricken with amnesia after receiving a head wound in The Gulf War. He’s charged with murder a year later after hitching a ride with a guy who kills a cop and sent to a mental institution where he becomes a lab rat for a time traveler.
The plot is as stupid as it seems. Despite its sleek visual style; the morgue drawer inspires some cool flashback scenes; the story goes nowhere interesting or entertaining fast, even when it’s going nearly two decades into the future and back within the blink of an eye.

video review : Land Of The Dead
George Romero created something special with Night Of The Living Dead. Land just bores you to death. There’s plenty of violent action, but that’s part of the problem. With all the explosions and gunshots, the vapid storyline never has a chance to build suspense. It doesn’t even feel like a zombie movie. For screaming out loud, since when do they know how to shoot back?

Night Of The Living Dead is a horror classic. Dawn, the title of which suggests it takes place the following morning; if the background calendars are up to date, it’s actually over a decade later; is a mess.
This, in comparison to the original, is easily the worst movie sequel I’ve ever seen. The narrative degradation from a serious thriller to what at times seems like wacky slapstick is staggeringly disappointing.
That the ghoul-shooting protagonists are no longer confined to a small house; most of this story takes place in an “indoor” shopping mall; is part of the problem. The rest has to do with the deadpan plot.

audio review : Funeral ( album ) … Lil Wayne
Don’t worry about forgetting the name of this album. It’s repeated ad nauseam, which won’t fare well if these songs are ever to stand on their own. There are 24 in all or 23 if you, like me, consider the first one more of a prelude.
Outta My Head is dead, but most are decent enough. The beats bang and Lil Wayne is still one of the better spitters in the game, though the best song; a Dream duet called Sights And Silencers; is the one he doesn’t rap on.

video review : Child’s Play
A toy that talks, walks and murders people in a story otherwise set in the real world requires a suspenseful of disbelief. That is unless you believe in Vodou magic. If so, you might be as crazy as the adults think little Andy is when he says Chucky, his Good Guy doll, is really alive.
As silly as it may be, the plot of Child’s Play thrills in some interesting ways. Who’s in the doll, how he got there and how to get out; that’s where Andy and the aforementioned Vodou come into play; are the gist. The boy’s mother and everyone else are just obstacles in his way.
As far as horror movie killers go, Chucky is a force to be reckoned with. He’s more fun and less scary than the others, but no one has more fourth-wall-busting potential in the business of branded toys. With the popularity of this flick, Good Guy dolls should be flying off the shelves.

If C-Murder insisted on “4” for “For”, he should’ve put four Niggas on the song. Not that he’s the type that cares about petty semantics. He might shoot me for even suggesting it. “If you fuck with me,” he warns, “it’s a must you die.”
What makes the song go hard is that along with decent verses; Snoop’s monotone flow drags the energy down a bit; and a solid beat, it has a catchy hook, albeit one that almost makes the mistake of parroting the horn riff.
