Marketside Five Cheese Traditional Crust Pizza

Marketside Five Cheese Traditional Crust Pizza

Even topped with Five Cheeses; mozzarella, provolone, Monterey Jack, Parmesan and Romano; a serving of this Pizza, which for me usually means the whole pie, is a bland affair. Part of the blame goes to the lack of meat; pepperoni alone could improve the taste drastically; but most of it goes to the underwhelming flavor of the sauce and spices.

audio review : The Art Of War ( album ) ... Bone Thugs-N-Harmony

Who are Bone at War with? “Hatin-ass niggas” according to the Intro, including rappers stealing their style. It’s not the rapid-fire delivery nor the Harmony but their melodies that make them sound better than the average rap group. They’re Thuggish Ruggish R-and-B singers too as all the best songs; Ready 4 War, Look Into My Eyes, Hardtimes, Nothin Changed; have them crooning the choruses all the while toting guns and murdering people.

audio review : Who Believes In Angels ( album ) ... Elton John + Brandi Carlile

The cover photo is tacky and gay, but Elton John’s been that way for decades. Why he decided to bring Brandi Carlile into his wacky world to the point of making a whole album together is one of the universe’s great mysteries, but conceptually it comes across more like his than hers. She’s not even on the last and best song; a poignant lament entitled When This Old World Is Done With Me.

audio review : Electronic ( album ) ... DJ Trippy

If you heard Bass Sound Off USA, you heard this album. It’s better here though as a cohesive project. The title theme is mostly techno with elements of house and Trip-hop, but it’s mixed like a night at the club, which makes for a sloppy mess when you want to isolate tracks. It would also be better without the formulaic vocal samples, but the music is decent. The best songs are Burning Out and Self Transcendence.

A Shoc Energy : Tropical Punch

A Shoc Energy : Tropical Punch

If you drink this expecting the taste of fruit punch as the name seems to imply, you may be disappointed. The flavor is nothing like it. Tropical Punch is apparently it’s own thing; more akin to piña colada, champagne even, with a hint of stale nuts. Included is a “natural energy blend” with 200 milligrams of caffeine.

BeanVivo Brown Sugar Baked Beans

BeanVivo Brown Sugar Baked Beans

It’s hard to go wrong with Brown Sugar Baked Beans, but BeanVivo sort of does. Never mind the fact that they smell like prunes. The taste, specifically the spices in the sauce, leaves a lot to be desired. Their one saving grace is the sweetness of the Sugar itself. The organic ingredients list is also otherwise impressively healthy.

A Shoc Energy : Orange Freeze

A Shoc Energy : Orange Freeze

A sip of this Energy drink will at first be off-putting if you’re expecting the taste of a Creamsicle bar. It is supposed to be based on those, but it just tastes like a cold Orange. The concept can be enhanced, however, by putting it in the Freezer until little ice crystals form. On a hot summer day, it’s certainly better that way.

I like Machine Language. It’s one of Techno Bass Crew’s best songs. The chorus on Old School Overload is vibing. If I can include a DJ Trippy bonus track, Burning Out is also hot. This fourth Volume of Bass Sound Off is, in fact, the best in the set. That’s not to say it isn’t a stormy affair. It, like the others, should be an EP. Less isn’t more, but it’s often better. That fact seems to be lost on DM Records.

Reign : Melon Mania

Reign : Melon Mania

This drink doesn’t put me in Melon Mania. It’s more of a berry taste to my buds; pleasant enough despite the carbonation but nothing to go crazy about. It’s promoted as Total Body Fuel packed with 300 milligrams of “natural caffeine” for “increased concentration” and “reduced fatigue”.

audio review : a DM Records compilation : Trip Hop Experience [ Chapter One ]

The best cut here is DJ OSP’s Relax, which sounds about as tranquil as its title suggests. Most of the others are subpar, perhaps partly due to the aesthetic limitations of the Trip Hop subgenre itself. The two songs you might’ve heard before are Brazil, from Bass 305’s Departure album, and Techno Bass Crew’s Disorder.

audio review : audio review : a DM Records compilation : Bass Explosion [ Volume 4 ]

Bass 305’s Techno Bass, albeit mistitled, is on Volume Three. It’s inclusion here is either a careless mistake or an artistic calamity. The fact that the album isn’t mastered; some songs are significantly louder than others; and the “4” breaks the nonnumerical tradition of the previous ones suggest the former.

Still this is the best Explosion since Volume 1. That is to say it’s not bad. It’s not good neither; Bass Syndicate is still awful; but there are good songs. The manic loop (chorus) on Bass Alliance’s Damaging Bass encourages “prolonged listening”. Other highlights include Bass In Your Face, Cyber Travel and Virtual Bass.

audio review : audio review : audio review : a DM Records compilation : Bass Explosion USA [ Volume One ]

Woofer Wrecker is an appropriate way to begin this album; a DM Records compilation of “20 booming hi-tech digital bass tracks from the world’s best acts!” That last bit contradicts the USA theme and My Boomin Is A Boomin; one vocal track amid instrumentals; should’ve been omitted, but it’s a decent set. The best songs include Space Bass Traveler, Bach 305 and Musik Of The Future.
