video review : House Of 1000 Corpses

video review : House Of 1000 Corpses

This movie is less about the House than its occupants; a family of sadistic killers that make The Addams look normal. The Corpses are the mummified remains of their victims, most of whom were tortured to death.

An unlucky four pay an inadvertent visit the night before Halloween after picking up a hitchhiker girl. The car suddenly breaks down, so the girl says she lives within walking distance and her brother has a tow truck.

There isn’t really much of a plot beyond that and there doesn’t need to be. The charm of this horror flick, which is directed, occasionally like a song video, by White Zombie frontman Rob Zombie, is its zany gory style.

audio review : Chosen One ( song ) … Future ( featuring Rocko )

This song peaks early with Future’s verse; the style (flow/delivery) of which is as immaculate as the Phantom he’s driving “like a four-wheeler”. Not that new car care matters much when you’re rich enough to have “ten” of them.

The other best part is the Southside beat, specifically its synth orchestration, which gives the song a sheen of ghetto elegance. Its only flaws, in fact, are that Rocko isn’t rapping like Future and “The” is missing from the title.

video review : Flawless

The news woman is gorgeous, but Laura’s old lady makeup is unconvincing. Those tacky beginning and ending bits should’ve been chipped off. Not that the movie would be Flawless without them; it’s barely good; but it would be better.

The plot spins with feminist undertones around a London Diamond heist, the planning and execution of which provides just enough suspense to keep you interested even as you roll your eyes at the imprudent of the protagonists.

video review : Aerial America : Florida

This Smithsonian Channel documentary, an episode of Aerial America, is all about Florida; my favorite state. It overlooks some notable cities in favor of hot spots like Miami, but it’s an interesting watch all the while.

It’s also somewhat educational as narrator Jim Conrad gives a history lesson on everything from important events like the 1565 settlement of Saint Augustine to trivial newsbits like the killing of Gianni Versace.

video review : The Wizard Of Oz

video review : The Wizard Of Oz

This modernized fairy tale, about a girl named Dorothy who gets blown away to a magical land during a Kansas cyclone, is quite enchanting. That’s mostly because of the cast of kooky characters she encounters along the way and the charming songs they sing.

There’s The Scarecrow who has no brains, The Tin Man who has no heart and the cowardly Lion, all of whom join Dorothy and her dog, whose impending destruction is never resolved, on a quest to Emerald City to get their wishes granted by the Godlike Wizard.
