Style over substance is the rule in this first half of Kill Bill. It’s a tale of revenge inspired by old kung fu and samurai war flicks in which characters engaged in carefully choreographed fist/sword fights.
The movie is a thrill during those gory action scenes, which are enhanced with over-the-top effects. Swords “whoosh” to caricatural levels as the lost of body parts sends blood splattering everywhere.
The plot, on the other hand, leaves much to be desired, which can’t be too surprising when a story reaches its halfway point and stops. Bill doesn’t even get a chance to show his face, let alone get killed.

question : Do you think it’s morally wrong for a guy to punch a girl in the face?
I think it depends on whether or not he has a justifiable reason for punching her. If, for example, he’s punching her because she verbally attacked him, then he’s wrong. If he’s punching her because she physically attacked him, then he’s not wrong.
I don’t think I could draw a definite line between the two. Purposely breaking a valuable item of his justifies a punch. Purposely breaking the rules of a monogamous relationship by having sex with another guy doesn’t. It just depends on the reason.

video review : Warrior

I want my money back! I paid top-dollar for in-ring seats at the biggest MMA event of the year and all the fights are rigged! That’s all I have to say about this brutal lovefest, which follows two fighters on the road to “Sparta”, a multi-day tournament in which the winner gets a whopping five-million dollars to spend on whatever he needs.
The woes of their lives, the financial and psychological misfortunes that are supposed to make us cheer them on, serve as the hook. And the twist, the one and only aspect of the plot that makes it different than all those other fight flicks, is that they share the same father; a former alcoholic abuser trying, unsuccessfully, to mend his past.
The fighting; the actual in-ring combat; is entertaining and realistic. Ringside commentators make it almost like watching real UFC fights, but the movie’s emotional element is anything but tough, so the crowd-pleasing outcomes of those matches are unrealistic and anticlimactic; cliché and predictable; all the way to the scripted end.
