audio review : Mental Trillness ( album ) … Juicy J

audio review : Mental Trillness ( album ) ... Juicy J

This project (album/mixtape) has to do with Mental health. If you couldn’t already tell by the title, the pedagogic prelude and interludes suggest as much. The theme is a solemn departure for Juicy J, but musically it’s basically business as usual. “I stay strapped like a baby seat,” the Memphis native declares on Pay Attention, over a trunk-rattling beat, because you “can’t trust niggas no more.”

Paranoia, schizophrenia; there are plenty of medical references to Stress the concept, but, though the No Rapper begins the set by suggesting there’s a personal underlining regarding the death of his mother, he never goes that deep. He’s more interested in doing drugs, making money and fucking “bitches”. Highlights include Deadbeat; a duet with Three 6 affiliate La Chat; and Gettin.

Planters Peanuts [ Salted ]

Planters Peanuts [ Salted ]

These Peanuts are okay enough to eat as a snack; a relatively healthy one with plenty of “plant-based protein”; but they’re plain thus not as flavorful as other varieties from Planters. When it comes to peanuts in general, cashews taste much better.

audio review : Animals ( song ) … Anderson Paak ( featuring Dr Dre )

This is, as far as I’m concerned, a waste of a damn good Premo beat. Yes, the music is produced not by Dr Dre; he relegates himself to guest rapper; but DJ Premier and his contribution is easily the best part of the song.

Anderson Paak, both the things he says; this is yet another example of “black folks” playing victim to “white folks”; and his voice are annoying. The one exception is the bridge, which is catchy enough to have been the chorus.

Cheetos : Flamin Hot [ Crunchy ]

Cheetos : Flamin Hot [ Crunchy ]

This is such a silly concept at least as far as my taste buds go. Extreme heat is painful and, though the Flamin Hot bit is just a hyperbolic marketing gimmick, why would I want to experience pain, however mild, at any time, let alone while eating? This would be a tasty snack otherwise; plain Cheetos.

Bang : Bangster Berry

Bang : Bangster Berry

I don’t know what kind of Berry this; one of a large assortment of Bang energy drinks; is supposed to taste like. I sense a hint of grape; grapes are berries in the technical sense; but perhaps that’s a subconscious cue from the purple can design. In any case, it’s about as sweet and palatable as most of the other flavors.

Organic Valley Stringles

Organic Valley Stringles

I like cheese on pizza and such, but I’ve never understood the allure of eating it by itself. These Organic Valley Stringles; glorified mozzarella sticks; are no exception. The ingredients list is impressively simple; skim milk, salt and enzyme; but the taste leaves a lot to be desired.

Dole Red Grapefruit Sunrise

Dole Red Grapefruit Sunrise

Grapefruit may be healthy, but it doesn’t taste good. The flavor, while sweet, is also offputtingly sour. The saving grace with these Dole fruit cups is that, like the Mandarin Oranges version, the bits are presented in white grape juice, which helps dilute the bitterness. That makes them a decently refreshing alternative when served cold from the fridge.

Funyuns

Funyuns

Funyuns are a snack conceptually based on onions; you’re supposed to have “Fun” eating them; but they’re not as bad as that sounds. They actually taste quite good partly because, aside from onion powder, they aren’t actually made with real onions. They’re “onion flavored rings” for whatever that’s worth.
