Bang : Candy Apple Crisp

Bang : Candy Apple Crisp

This really does taste like a Candy Apple. I prefer the caramel ones, but it’s a sweet treat nonetheless. The only drawback is the one that flaws most Bangs and energy drinks in general; the carbonation. Imagine how much better these drinks would be if not for the grimace-inducing sting.

Bang : Krazy Key Lime Pie

Bang : Krazy Key Lime Pie

These Bang drinks have cool quirky names, but most are disappointingly hyperbolic; this one being a prime example. There’s a hint of Lime (Skittles) at first sip, but it doesn’t taste like Key Lime Pie. Neither is there anything Krazy about it, though it might have you acting that way once the 300 milligrams of caffeine takes effect.

Bang : Purple Guava Pear

Bang : Purple Guava Pear

I don’t know what the Purple bit is about; this drink looks clear to me; but it really does taste like some kind of fruit. Whether or not it’s more akin to an actual Guava or Pear is up for debate, but it’s one of the more interesting Bang flavors. It’s also loaded with caffeine; 300 milligrams; for “performance energy”.

Vitamin Water : Zero Sugar : Squeezed [ Lemonade Flavored ]

Vitamin Water : Zero Sugar : Squeezed [ Lemonade Flavored ]

I’d complain about this tasting too much like Water, but I guess that’s the point. The Squeezed bit has to do with the fact that it’s Lemonade Flavored; there’s no actual lemons or lemon juice listed on the ingredients list; but it’s not at all sour, which is a good thing. What’s not good is that it’s not very sweet, having Zero Sugar and all.

Bang : Blue And Yellow Limoncello

Bang : Blue And Yellow Limoncello

I thought this would taste like lemonade; a drink I don’t generally enjoy; but I was pleasantly surprised at first sip. The flavor reminds me of marshmallows; Lucky Charms marshmallows to be exact; though not as sweet, probably because it’s made with “0 sugars”. It provides a whopping 300 milligrams of caffeine though for “performance energy”.

Powerade Zero : Mixed Berry

Powerade Zero : Mixed Berry

I don’t know about Mixed Berry. This tastes like Kool-Aid; maybe even its bootleg cousin Flavor Aid; with either too much water added or not enough sugar. The fact that it has Zero; it’s sweetened with sucralose instead; suggests the latter. Not that a cold bottle won’t do its job of replenishing your body after a tough (sports) competition.

Rockstar Punched : Fruit Punch

Rockstar Punched : Fruit Punch

This Fruit Punch, which contains no actual fruit juice, is the highlight of the Rockstar Punched collection, but it would’ve made more sense to save the (Punched) name for this drink alone. The double jab is a bit redundant. It tastes like Hawaiian Punch or Tropical Punch Kool-Aid with carbonation.

audio review : Dance Tonight ( song ) … Lucy Pearl

This song; about going to, and having fun at, a lavish nightclub; represents each member of Lucy Pearl at their best. That means Raphael Saadiq and Dawn Robinson, over one of Ali Shaheed Muhammad’s sleekest beats, have rarely, if ever, sounded better.

They both have nice singing voices, but it’s the melodies that sell it, especially during the verses. If not for Robinson’s background vocals during the chorus, they’d easily upstage it and throw everything off balance. Not that the drinks aren’t doing that already.

There are no red cups in this establishment. That’s Cristal or Dom Pérignon in those glasses. Everyone’s feeling a little tipsy and a little frisky as they shake their bodies; Robinson’s being one of the most attractive among them; on the packed Dance floor.

Java Monster : Vanilla Light

Java Monster : Vanilla Light

Light is right. I can’t detect any Vanilla. This Monster tastes like milk with a little coffee (Java) and sugar; the can takes a shot at Starbucks by boasting how it has “way less”; added. You could probably match its exact flavor with the correct ratio of just those three ingredients, but it “tastes good” as advertised.
