Autopsy Room Four ( story ) … Stephen King

The concept, a living man lying on a gurney as pathologists unknowingly prepare to perform an autopsy on him, is creepy and intriguing. It’s Stephen King’s flippant handling of it that disappoints.

A story like this should be ominous. Instead the “dead” man, who’s fully conscious but also fully paralyzed, makes corny wisecracks to himself, even as his body is about to be sawed open and dismantled.

audio review : Those Kinda Nights ( song ) … Eminem ( featuring Ed Sheeran )

Eminem says the club beat; the best part of the song; takes him back to his D-12 days. With that bar, it would’ve been a perfect opportunity to feature the other four living members for what would be their first song together probably since the Encore album.

You can hear Bizarre trying to “holla” at a girl, but he doesn’t rap. He should’ve been given the last verse. What a nostalgic treat that could’ve been. Besides, Eminem has his hands full with a chick of his own. Her name is Alexa and she has “lean” in her car.

She’s also bisexual. That reveal; the “jokes aside” to “so am I” bit; is an increasingly rare example of the rapper being effectively concise. Ed Sheeran also sounds good on the hook, making this a fun dance anthem and one of the better newer Eminem songs.

video review : The Invisible Man

The Invisible Man’s best moments are its two most surprising ones. The first involves a girl being punched in the face. The second involves a woman getting her throat slit. There’s also a poignant scene involving an email message. They’re dramatic highlights in a movie that is otherwise a bit of a mess.

What’s nearly as unbelievable as a woman claiming her dead abusive ex-boyfriend is alive and invisibly stalking her; it would help if Cecilia’s role were played by someone pretty; are some of these gaping plot holes. By the end, this psychological thriller, which begins interestingly enough, has gotten rather silly.

video review : The Gentlemen

I’m guessing the Gentlemen title is made in jest as these characters are anything but. The main one is a violent drug lord named Mickey. The plot has to do with his efforts to get out of the business.

Except it’s a lot more complicated than that. Confusing would be a better word. The snappy dialogue and quick-cut editing demand your undivided attention in order not to get lost in the steak sauce.

video review : Oz The Great And Powerful

video review : Oz The Great And Powerful

This is a Disney prequel to The Wizard Of Oz that focuses not on Dorothy but The Great And Powerful one himself. It’s a story that didn’t need to be told; I would’ve preferred a sequel; but it’s nonetheless a wondrous one.

The fun begins when Oz, a full-time magician and part-time casanova, gets caught in a Kansas twister and conjured off to Oz. The land shares his name by chance, but the people there think he’s the awaited King, so he plays along.

The plot is a little cartoony at times; the Knuck character is particularly annoying; but it’s mostly an adventure as Oz, like Dorothy before (after) him, is joined by a cast of eccentric friends on his way to kill The Wicked Witch.

video review : Return To Oz

The one thing this sequel improves on compared to the original Wizard Of Oz from nearly a half century ago is that, though the story takes place six months later, Dorothy is played by a much younger and prettier actress, which is more appropriate for the character.

Everything else about Return To Oz is decidedly inferior. It’s darker in tone and thus less fun, sure, but its most conspicuous flaw is the missing songs. The only music here comes in the form of dramatic orchestration as Dorothy ventures with friends new and old.

video review : The Wizard Of Oz

This modernized fairy tale, about a girl named Dorothy who gets blown away to a magical land during a Kansas cyclone, is quite enchanting. That’s mostly because of the cast of kooky characters she encounters along the way and the charming songs they sing.

There’s The Scarecrow who has no brains, The Tin Man who has no heart and the cowardly Lion, all of whom join Dorothy and her dog, whose impending destruction is never resolved, on a quest to Emerald City to get their wishes granted by the Godlike Wizard.

video review : It’s A Wonderful Life

video review : It's A Wonderful Life

George Bailey may have a Wonderful Life; by the looks of it, he certainly has a wonderul wife; but his story is rarely appealing. A glaring problem from the start is that his personality, as an adult and especially a kid, is rather annoying as are most of the main characters in this Christmas tale.

Aside from romance, family and friends, its themes include money, death and religion. That last one provides George with a guardian angel who doesn’t start his job until way late. What happens then should be most of the movie. Tacked on as it is makes the ending resolution seem rushed.

video review : August Underground

The one thing this fictional snuff film has going for it is that its director, Fred Vogel, is a skilled makeup artist. When a girl is kidnapped, beaten, tortured and killed in a basement, covered in blood and feces with her left nipple sliced off, it looks real.

What the movie needs is a better plot. It’s more a presentation of random scenes, which makes sense; it’s supposed to be amateur video shot by psychos; but offers nothing even perverted butt-sniffers like me would want to watch for an hour.

audio review : Official ( album ) ... MC Eiht

Eiht is one of the more prolific rappers in the game. Here’s 27 songs to add to his list. Like most of the others, the beats are the best parts. Despite his title, the MC has never ranked above average.

He’s especially incompetent during the breaks, which turn would-be decent songs like Long Time Comin and Bang On Em into Official duds. The one true banger is a duet with Tha Chill entitled Why.

video review : A Nightmare On Elm Street 5 [ The Dream Child ]

“Nine, ten, Freddy’s back again,” the jump rope song goes and now he wants to continue his deadly deed thru Alice’s seed. There’s a clever scene involving a comic book, but everything else about this movie is shit; the kind of shit that stinks-up the whole house when the diaper comes off.
