audio review : Deli ( song ) … Ice Spice

Why Ice Spice insists on shaking her ass in a Deli à la Lizzo as opposed to a dance club is anyone’s guess, but the beat is a banger. It better be because the rapper’s vocals, specifically her borderline-retarded voice and delivery, leave a lot to be desired. Her looks leave little. She’s a “baddie” and knows it as she bends over to show the boys a glimpse of her cold cuts.

Bang : Krazy Key Lime Pie

Bang : Krazy Key Lime Pie

These Bang drinks have cool quirky names, but most are disappointingly hyperbolic; this one being a prime example. There’s a hint of Lime (Skittles) at first sip, but it doesn’t taste like Key Lime Pie. Neither is there anything Krazy about it, though it might have you acting that way once the 300 milligrams of caffeine takes effect.

audio review : Discombobulated ( song ) … Eminem

This song would be a lot better if not for the switch that happens at the start of the second verse. The music; a Relapsesque Dr Dre production; is suddenly and permanently abandoned.

The change fits the concept, but the beats that replace it, apparently provided by Black Bethoven and S1, are inferior. Thus what could’ve been a good song is ruined ninety seconds in.

audio review : Still Crazy After All These Years ( album ) … Paul Simon

audio review : Still Crazy After All These Years ( album ) ... Paul Simon

The title song is something special. It starts the album on such a satisfying note; “I fear I’ll do some damage one fine day,” Paul Simon confesses, “but I would not be convicted by a jury of my peers”; that most of the rest pales in comparison. The other best song is the other one with a funny title; 50 Ways To Leave Your Lover; on which the singer seeks relationship advice from a female companion.

Bang : Purple Guava Pear

Bang : Purple Guava Pear

I don’t know what the Purple bit is about; this drink looks clear to me; but it really does taste like some kind of fruit. Whether or not it’s more akin to an actual Guava or Pear is up for debate, but it’s one of the more interesting Bang flavors. It’s also loaded with caffeine; 300 milligrams; for “performance energy”.

audio review : Seven Psalms ( album ) … Paul Simon

audio review : Seven Psalms ( album ) ... Paul Simon

“Tears and flowers dry over time,” Paul ponders, “Memory leaves us; melody and rhyme.” He’s still Rhymin Simon, but his knack for melody left him a long time ago. It was 2000 to be precise when, after making his best albums in the 1990s, his inevitable decline began. I remember listening to You’re The One and being Surprised at how unremarkable his music had become.

These Seven Psalms, given his old age and the amount of time between projects, may be the final batch. The morbid concept certainly seems to suggest so. They’re Hebrew Bible songs about God and death; a thematic continuation of his previous (Stranger) album, which ended with the Insomniac’s Lullaby. It’ll be a sad day when Paul Simon dies, but he seems to be prepared.

It’s nonetheless his worst album if it can be considered as such. It’s described as a “seven-movement composition”; The Lord is resurrected in intervals as if the chorus to a very long song; “intended to be listened to as one continuous piece”. If the purpose were to put you to sleep, it would be a success. Paul Simon, singing over an acoustic guitar, has never sounded more lifeless.

audio review : a DM Records compilation : Adventures In Car Audio Software

audio review : a DM Records compilation : Adventures In Car Audio Software

This is supposed to be music for cars and it starts off with Velocity, but it goes off track along the way. It’s ultimately a random collection of Bass songs from DM Records, most of which you could’ve already heard on the Bass Explosion set. The inclusion of a Bass Invaders album prelude shows just how haphazardly these Adventures were put together.

That’s a shame because the concept suggests an anthemic compilation for Car Audio enthusiasts. Sub Culture and Cyber Travel get it right; the best songs are the ones by Bass 305; but the Space music should’ve been saved for the Rocket Audio version. The album’s biggest blunder though is that it isn’t mastered correctly if at all. Some tracks are louder than others.

African Royale BRX Braid And Extensions Sheen Spray

African Royale BRX Braid And Extensions Sheen Spray

I don’t wear hair Extensions; I’m not a tranny; but I do wear Braids and this Sheen Spray works for that. It “moisturizes, conditions and softens”; I won’t mention the part about it “adding luster”; but perhaps the best attribute is its “anti-itch power”. The worst is how oily/sticky it is when it gets on your face and neck, but at least it’s not watered down like other brands.

Vitamin Water : Zero Sugar : Squeezed [ Lemonade Flavored ]

Vitamin Water : Zero Sugar : Squeezed [ Lemonade Flavored ]

I’d complain about this tasting too much like Water, but I guess that’s the point. The Squeezed bit has to do with the fact that it’s Lemonade Flavored; there’s no actual lemons or lemon juice listed on the ingredients list; but it’s not at all sour, which is a good thing. What’s not good is that it’s not very sweet, having Zero Sugar and all.

The Berenstain Bears And The Bad Dream ( book ) … Stan Berenstain + Jan Berenstain

Bang : Blue And Yellow Limoncello

The title should be plural because, as the cover illustration suggests, both Sister and Brother Bear have Bad Dreams. Those nightmares are caused by Space Grizzlies; “action figures” Brother and his friends are “just crazy about”.

The overall lesson of the story has to do with how the mind “keeps right on thinking” during sleep, but its most endearing moments come when the Bear siblings are awake; playing together and going to the movies with Mama and Papa.

audio review : a DM Records compilation : Deep House UK [ Volume 1 ]

audio review : a DM Records compilation : Deep House UK [ Volume 1 ]

I criticized the second Deep House LA for mixing instrumental songs with Vocal ones. Deep House UK does the same, but here it’s more acceptable because this is Volume 1 thus it’s not breaking a previous standard. The complaint this time is that they come at random.

Still UK is on par with the first LA, but some tracks are mistitled. Da Mental Groove, for example, is Part 3, but its beat switch is one of the set’s best moments along with the xylophone on The Meaning. Whole song highlights include Our Voices, Cool The Fire and Get On.

Bang : Blue And Yellow Limoncello

Bang : Blue And Yellow Limoncello

I thought this would taste like lemonade; a drink I don’t generally enjoy; but I was pleasantly surprised at first sip. The flavor reminds me of marshmallows; Lucky Charms marshmallows to be exact; though not as sweet, probably because it’s made with “0 sugars”. It provides a whopping 300 milligrams of caffeine though for “performance energy”.
