Alexia Thainara gets her revenge on Bruna Brasil in this UFC Fight Night prelim opener, speaking of which includes “the old can opener”; one of several moves Burguesinha utilizes to control her opponent. Brasil does land a nice spinning back kick to the face near the end of the bout, but it’s not enough. She loses this rematch via unanimous decision.

I was rooting for Alexa Grasso, but I didn’t want her opponent to die. That’s my concern; the first Octagon death; as Maycee Barber lies still, eyes open, after being knocked/choked out in the very first round. She stays in that position for over a minute, like an LIS patient, before finally coming back to life. It’s a beautifully dramatic ending to a fight that was just getting started.

Rodolfo Bellato gives Aljamain Sterling a run for his money in this rescheduled bout against Paul Craig. After taking an illegal upkick to the face, he gestures a complaint to the ref; you don’t see that part till the replay; before appearing to fake a knockout, even going as far as to fight the ref. Impressive highlights for a future TKO transfer to the WWE.

Punching bag Kris Moutinho fought his way back to the UFC with five wins (finishes) in a row only to get knocked out in the first round of this return bout. That says a lot about the skill level it takes to compete in the UFC. Perhaps he can stick around as a Brooklyn-Brawler-type jobber to showcase more up-and-comers like Malcolm Wellmaker.

Don’t be Joe Pyfer. The prospect downplayed Jack Hermansson during the prefight buildup; “I just don’t see him being able to hurt me, man”; and gets schooled. “Jack was better tonight,” the new bit goes as a humbled Pyfer accepts defeat.
He (Pyfer) clearly wins the first round and probably the second. That’s to his credit. As the bout goes on though, thanks in part to a punch to the eye and some crafty calf kicks, Hermansson, as Daniel Cormier so eloquently puts it, “kinda took over”.

This is a close fight that results in a draw. Valentina Shevchenko suggests she would’ve won if not for the judges feeling pressured not to make Alexa Grasso lose her Championship title on Mexican Independence Day. A “10-8” Round 5 score for Grasso, which even the commentators imply is ridiculous, suggests she’s probably right.
Grasso wins in cuteness, even when bloody and bruised, but not much else as Shevchenko is generally the better fighter. It’s no blowout though by any means. Grasso fights like a champion, ending the bout with an impressively snappy submission attempt, and seems to think she actually (literally) won during her post-fight interview.

“What a crazy decision,” Joe Rogan exclaims in response to Cody Garbrandt suddenly going from pro MMA fighter to sloppy street brawler near the end of Round 1, but what he probably wanted to say was “stupid”.
It was apparently an emotional (angry) reaction to an inadvertent headbutt that made Garbrandt go wild; trading punches hard and fast with little to no defense; which results in his third knockout loss in a row.
