video review : MVP MMA : Rousey Versus Carano

This first MVP MMA event offers a main card of early finishes. If not for the Nate Diaz bloodbath, which ends with a corner stoppage, they would be all first-rounders. KO artists Robelis Despaigne, Salahdine Parnasse and Francis Ngannou do as expected. Ronda Rousey still being able to win via armbar as quick as she does is a pleasant surprise. “There’s no way I could’ve ended it better than this”, she says and she’s probably right.

video review : Anderson Silva versus Tyron Woodley at Jake Versus Joshua

“It might not look like much is happening,” David Haye says during the uneventful first round, “but all of a sudden a shot will land and Woodley will go down.” That’s exactly what happens in round 2. It’s an odd knockout though as the ref waits till Woodley gets up and resets to stop it. Anderson Silva should also stop here, but his Chris Weidman callout would make for a more appropriate career ender.

video review : Jake Paul versus Anderson Silva at Paul Versus Silva

video review : Jake Paul versus Anderson Silva at Paul Versus Silva

This fight is closer than I thought it would be. I was concerned, as an Anderson Silva fan, that Jake Paul would knock him out à la the Tyron Woodley rematch, so a decision loss in a competitive bout is somewhat of a moral victory.

Silva has his moments, but it’s his lack of activity (offense) overall; he doesn’t really start fighting until the second round; that costs him the bout. Paul is busier and lands more punches, including a big knockdown near the end.
